Tekken 5 Review05.20.08

Tekken 5The Tekken series is certainly one that revolutionized the fighting games industry and there is no surprise in that. I can not remember one Tekken game that was not entertaining, especially in versus mode against friends. I used to play Tekken 3 for hours but this does not mean that I did not play Tekken 5 a lot when I laid my hands on it. The first Tekken game appeared in 1995 and it was an instant success. We are talking about a lot of people playing in arcades and at home, with the same intensity and there is a huge tradition to live up to, one that was maintained in Tekken 5, a game that does come with great visuals, a lot of 3D action and some modes that were not available in the original arcade platform.

The first good news that comes with Tekken 5 is that Tekken 4 is kind of put aside. That game put in some position changing moves that were not at all popular so the 5th version did put in a back to basics approach. This is why Tekken 5 has quite a great classic feel and we can compare it with Tekken 3 from that (more…)

Fight Night Round 3 Review05.18.08

Fight Night Round 3 ReviewFight Night is a game that is basically running without any real competition as it is the only boxing game out there that counts. Although this usually means that you would end up with a mediocre game, this is not the case with the series as it is quite interactive and totally enjoyable. Fight Night Round 3 comes with a lot of interesting aspects and with some improvements when compared to the last games in the series, although not that much, still enough to make you want to have another match. The bad part (if we can call it like that) is that the best parts of this fighting game are the ones that have not changed since Fight Night Round 2. Total Punch Control is back in the game and it is just as good as in 2004. I expect a lot of veterans to start throwing boxing combos easily with this implementation.

I was quite new to the Fight Night concept but that did not play an important factor in the speed with which I learned how to play. It is easy if you put a little effort in it. What is difficult is when you want to master the strong (more…)

Smackdown vs Raw 2007 Review02.14.08

Smackdown vs Raw 2007The world of professional wrestling has a lot of fans out there both in USA and other parts of the world. On the other hand, the world of professional wrestling games does not really have that many fans. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 is a game that might change some people’s view on this topic. My girlfriend, who likes games like Rogue Galaxy, Final Fantasy or Legend of Zelda, was impressed a little with the game. I must say that I am a big fan of WWE and TNA and I was looking forward to playing this game and as soon as I put it in my Playstation 2 I was quickly grabbed by it. The game is highly addictive, especially for fans of simulated, spectacular and acted fights like in professional wrestling. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 comes with some new elements, an improved look and a whole lot more.

Just like with every game in the series, Smackdown vs Raw 2007 comes to the table with new features, improved gameplay and a look that is very impressive. This is one the closest to reality fighting games (more…)

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Review02.10.08

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3When it comes to fighting games we always need to think about anime characters ever since Street Fighter 2 or Capcom’s hits. The world of Dragon Ball Z is one that has so many fans that it would have been stupid not to have a game that would be based on it and trying to bring in the feeling of the series into a combat video game. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, of course, one game that I have played for such a long time with friends and had a hell of a time, even more than with Tekken but less when compared to Mortal Kombat Armageddon, which was a lot of fun because of the sheer number of characters you could have chosen to fight as. Now, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is one game that did receive a lot of high marks in reviews from all of the specialists out there and you need to agree with them. This new game from the series does bring in a lot of improvements but it also features some downsides that should be known.

The entire series can be compared to EA’s sports games because there is little (more…)

Mortal Kombat Deception Review02.09.08

Mortal Kombat Deception screenshotMortal Kombat Deception is the sequel to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. It is needless to say that everybody knows about the Mortal Kombat series and we are talking about a series that is so popular that simply the name sells. My personal problem with Deception is that I got to play it after I had already played Mortal Kombat Armageddon a lot. This means that I was a little disappointed but after I got over that feeling I started to realize that we are dealing with a tremendous game. We have different game modes in Konquest, classic arcade, puzzle kombat and chess kombat. Puzzle kombat is really fun and you can add a lot of fun to the game by simply playing this. Chess kombat is one game mode that is highly entertaining as it features a combination of chess and classic mortal kombat fighting that make it very fun, strategic and entertaining. Konquest is not as good or entertaining as in Armageddon but then again, Armageddon did come after Deception.

The Classic Arcade game mode is probably the best part of the game and it is that one part of every Mortal Kombat game in the series that (more…)
